What is the purpose of Woodlands Conservancy?

Woodlands Conservancy is a 501-C-3, nonprofit land trust organization created with the mission to preserve and restore forested wetlands and other ecologically or historically significant lands in Louisiana.. The vision of Woodlands Conservancy is to be the regional model for the conservation of hardwood forests, and a leader in the advocacy and preservation of Louisiana’s coastal forest ecosystems.

What are your hours?

Woodlands Preserve is open from dawn until dusk.

How do I get there?

From downtown New Orleans, take the Crescent City Connection to the Westbank. Take the General DeGaulle East exit (9B). Merge onto General DeGaulle and travel 2.9 miles, continuing over the Intracoastal Canal. Enter the traffic circle at the end of the bridge ramp and exit left to go under the bridge. Drive 0.6 miles on Highway 406/Woodland Hwy to the caution light. Turn left at the caution light onto F. Edward Hebert Blvd. Continue 0.6 Miles. The entrance is on the left. Drive all the way down the dirt road along the canal to the parking area at the trailhead.

Is admission free?

Yes, the trails at Woodlands Preserve are free and open to the public.

What kind of wildlife might I see on the trails?

Along the trails you may encounter birds, turtles, frogs and toads, snakes, armadillos, squirrels, raccoons, lizards and more.

Are guided tours available?

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are allowed. Dogs must remain on a leash at all times and dog owners must clean up after their pets.

Are bicycles allowed on the trails?

Bicycles of any kind including E-bikes are not allowed on any of the Woodlands Conservancy trails. Woodlands Preserve is a nature preserve in a vulnerable wetland habitat. Bikes not only put Woodlands trails at risk, but also pedestrians using the trails due to poor visibility and blind spots on portions of the trails.

Wheelchairs are permitted on Woodlands Trails.

Are motor vehicles allowed on the trails?

Motor vehicles of any kind (example: ATV, UTV, four wheeler, motorized bicycles) are not allowed on any of the Woodlands Conservancy trails. Woodlands Preserve is a nature preserve in a vulnerable wetland habitat. Motor vehicles not only put Woodlands trails at risk, but also pedestrians using the trails due to poor visibility and blind spots on portions of the trails.

Wheelchairs, including motorized wheelchairs are permitted on Woodlands Trails.

Are there picnic areas and is food allowed?

You are welcome to have your lunch at the Daybrook Pavilion or at the picnic shelter beside the first bridge. Do not feed any animals.

How is Woodlands Conservancy funded?

Woodlands Conservancy is funded by individual and corporate donations, memberships and grants from a variety of government agencies, corporations and private foundations.
